My name is John Turner. I’m a Deaf author and speaker, and this website is about my real life.
I grew up in Roxbury, Boston, where gangs, violence, and hardship were part of everyday life. But my story did not begin with the gangs.
When I was 10 years old, something happened to me that I did not understand. My body locked up. My voice locked up. I was scared and alone. At that age, I did not understand the power I was experiencing. As I got older and went through everything that came later in my life, I began to understand. The warnings came before danger and told me when to move. Looking back now, I know that power came from God.
That’s why I wrote When the Warning Comes, I Move. I wanted to tell the truth about my life—what I lived through, how I survived, and God’s power that stayed with me through it all. I want people to understand my story and the power that guided and protected me.
Today, I share my story through my book and speaking engagements across the United States. This is more than a story about gangs. It is the true story of my life, my survival, and God’s power.
